As a scout in Boys Scout of America (BSA) I have gotten the great blessing to travel this great country that many have fought and died for. I also got to propose, plan, execute and report my own service project in my community to Achieve my Eagle Scout. I don't have it yet, but the time will come when I will receive it. High Adventure Any scout over the age of 13 and is First Class has the opportunity to go on BSA national high adventures. Almost all of the high adventures are difficult and only a few can go. Northern Tier (Ely,MI) Northern tier was my very first High Adventure. There, a crew of scouts can have the opportunity to go dog sledding and sleep in igloos in the middle of winter. Philmont (Cimarron,NM) This was my second hug adventure. Philmont Scout ranch isn't called "Scouting Paradise for no reason. Any and all scouts will arrive scared of philmont. Will hike Philmont despising it. Will finish Philmont loving it and leave Philmont missing it. I was the crew leader for 625-B2 consisting of 7 scouts and 2 adult advisers. I had the honor of leading this great crew through the Wilson Mesa. Up Baldy Mountain (Elv. 12,441) and through the Dear lake Mesa. We had Itinerary 15 witch is nicknamed the 'Climbing Itinerary' . Then from Cimarroncito to the Cito turn around. All while carrying 30-85lbs on our backs and hiking 4-11 miles a day. Boundary Waters Canoe Area (Ely, Minnesota) I would proudly call this trip my favorite out of all of the trips I have been able to participate in. I did sever as crew leader for this expedition. This was what some would classify as a gentleman's high adventure. It was a relaxed mellow trip with a lot of fishing and eating. While at Philmont u would lose 5lbs when you get back, we gained 10lbs at the end of this trip. |
